A mother of two who complained about her botched £3,500 boob job was horrified when her plastic surgeon told her -‘If you pay for a Mini you can’t expect a Ferrari.’
Alex Cater, 33, had gone under the knife after losing an incredible 10 stone having ballooned to a size 26 following the birth of her children Kayleigh, 13, and Cameron, 10.
But instead of gaining her dream figure the surgery, carried out by shamed surgeon Amedeo Usai, went so badly wrong that her ‘butchered’ breasts were badly misshapen, painful and leaking puss.
She eventually had to have the implants removed but said she still has both physical and mental scars that may never heal.
Dr Usai has now been struck off the medical register after a tribunal heard a series of complaints against him by patients.
Alex Cater opted to have surgery on her breasts after she lost 10 stone which left her with sagging skin. She had been a size 26 (left, with her daughter Kayleigh and her mother)
She said she knew something was wrong after waking up from surgery in agony. But surgeon Amedeo Usai, who has since been struck off the medical register, dismissed her concerns with his brash comments
‘As soon as I touched the top of my breasts, I knew something was wrong,’ she said.
‘I was heartbroken and furious, so I consulted Dr Usai. I thought he would be understanding and put it right.
‘But instead, he quickly became aggressive, sneering: ”You can’t pay for a Mini and get a Ferrari! What did you expect from £3,500 surgery?”
Italian Usai was investigated after a string of complaints from five women over his face lift, liposuction, and breast augmentation treatments at private cosmetic clinics across Greater Manchester between 2009 and 2013.
He was also found to have sent a series of aggressive messages to patients who had complained about him. He called one a ‘stupid bitch’ and another ‘a f****** liar’.
Mrs Cater from Wollaston, Northamptonshire, decided on surgery after losing the weight over five years through healthy eating and exercise.
But though she’d dropped seven dress sizes and had the support of her husband Mark, the nursery nurse said she felt disgusted by the sagging skin she was left with.
She said: ‘I should have been in awe of my slinky size 12 frame.
‘But I couldn’t look at my sagging boobs without feeling an overwhelming sense of disappointment. I just couldn’t win.’

The surgery has left Mrs Cater with painful breast which started leaking pus shortly afterwards
Pictured on their wedding day to Mark in 2014, Mrs Cater had the painful implants removed
So when she heard a radio announcement about a competition to win cosmetic surgery at Alexandra Hospital, Chesterfield, she thought it was fate.
She entered, and two weeks later discovered she was a runner-up, and the hospital had offered her £500 towards the surgery at their clinic.
Mrs Cater was initially hesitant, as she would have to provide the rest of the cash to afford the £3,500 surgery.
But her husband suggested dipping into their savings, in a bid to help her feel good about her body.
In May 2010, she called the hospital to arrange a consultation with Dr Usai.
She said she was nervous, but excited to see her new body, and a few days later underwent the surgery.
But when she came around from the anaesthetic, she was in awful pain and once at home, her new breasts began leaking pus.
She met with Dr Usai just three days after the surgery, and was assured that she would be fine and only need a basic scar revision.
In June she returned to the theatre for more surgery.
But horrifically, she awoke from her two-hour surgery in even worse pain than she’d been in before.
Her husband couldn’t hide his shock as he saw her now flat and butchered breasts.
Desperate for help, she visited a second surgeon, only to be told the damage that had been done was too bad to repair.
For five months, she was forced to use the chord of her dressing gown as a brace to support her breasts.
Finally, after visiting a third surgeon, Mrs Cater had a glimmer of hope, after receiving surgery to anchor the tissue at the base of her breasts, in the hope that they could support themselves.
A year later she was still suffering chest pains, and ultimately returned to the Alexandra Hospital to get rid of the implants once and for all.
She said: ‘I am still in constant agony as a result of the nerve damage in my left breast, and I am still so heartbroken by the ordeal this dodgy doc put me through.
‘I’m so pleased that he’s been struck off, but I wish it happened before he had the chance to butcher me.
‘I still have so much scarring, both mentally and physically, and I doubt I’ll ever get over it.
‘I hope no other woman has to experience the hellish nightmare that I have.’
Dr Amedeo Usai, who had been based in Preston, Lancashire, was struck off the medical register and found guilty of misconduct at a disciplinary hearing of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in January.
USAI’S DAMNING LEGACY: ONLINE FORUM REVEALS DEVASTATED WOMEN CLAIMING THEY WERE ‘BUTCHERED’
On a woman’s magazine forum, a number of posts discuss Usai’s work after someone asked if people would recommend him for a nose job.
One woman, writing under the name Farrell 275, said her breasts had been ‘butchered’ by Usai.
She said: ‘The scars r (sic) disgusting and I have had two ultra sounds and MRI scan and they (implants) both have leaked and very painful.’
Many women claimed to have taken legal action against him, alleging his surgery left them with leaking implants and needing corrective surgery.
On the forum, while a few people said they were ‘thrilled’ by his work and ‘would recommend to anyone’, many others had disaster stories.
One patient, writing as Farrell 275 in 2011, wrote ‘Usai should not be working !!!!’
‘I has him in 07 for breast implants he butchered me the scars r disgusting and I have had two ultra sounds and MRI scan and they both have leaked and very painfull
‘I had those pip implants …would love to see ur (sic) nose …really i would he is a joke booked me in 7 times to have scars sorted and cancelled every one he did last min he doesnt wrk there anymore but he caused me upset and pain and its going through a lawyer he is a disgrace!!!’
‘I have also sued Usai and my case went to court earlier this year. I wondered how many others there are and if you have been contacted by any one else? I would like to report him and get him struck off the Gmc register so no one else has to suffer.’
