The ghost can be clearly seen standing in the window, with an incredible amount of detail
Sue Palmer snapped daughter Jessie and pooch Rudi greeting her from the windows of her house but was shocked to see the face of her own mother – who died four years ago – looking back at her.
The 53-year-old, a physiotherapist from Beverley, Yorkshire, moved into the 70-year-old 1950s-built cottage 16 years ago and said daughter Jessie, 25, has always suspected there is a ‘presence’ in the building.
Single mum-of-three Ms Palmer said: “I took the picture of Jessie and Rudi both welcoming me home, but when I showed a friend she pointed out another face.
“The face in the corner of the window looks just like my mum’s face in an old picture of her from when she was about 21.
When Jessie had her tarot cards read they said her gran was always with her
“The night after I took that photo we went into the same room and could strongly smell cigarette smoke, even though no one in our home smokes.
“But my mum was a big smoker, she smoked from the age of 13 until the day she died.
“It started making me think – there is definitely something strange going on.
The ghost ofJessie’s gran is seen right here standing by the window in the room next door
Jessie has always been adamant there was something in the house.
“Since the age of nine she sleepwalked all the time and always used to say she could see things in her bedroom – someone sat on the end of the bed – and could never sleep in there.
“This went on for about eight years until we swapped bedrooms, and after that she was absolutely fine but she has still insisted there is something in the house.
“Even now she hears things and won’t stay there on her own.
This picture of Mrs Palmer’s mother looks spot on like the face in the photo of the ghost
“Rudi sleeps in the bedroom with me and always growls at the wall when there is nothing there, so who knows if there could be a presence.
“I don’t know if there is an afterlife or not, but I know something like that is not going to hurt you.
“When Jessie had her tarot cards read they said her gran was always with her.
“Mum spent a lot of time with us babysitting and helping me bring the girls up.
“If it was mum it definitely gave me a bit of hope and comfort.
“She was a dad for my girls – really, she was amazing – and she spent lots of time with us in the house.”
Ms Palmer took the photo last Monday at about 9.30am after seeing Jessie – who had just got back from a two week holiday – and four-year-old beagle Rudi were both at the windows.
She thought nothing more of the snap until sharing it with a friend, who immediately pointed out a face in the top right hand window near to where Jessie was standing.
Sue Palmer says her daughter was haunted every night by a presence as child
And Ms Palmer and Jessie were shocked when they realised the face looked like an old black and white photo of Sue’s mum Betty Palmer, who died of lung cancer four years ago aged 79.
But the pair said it was a “comfort” to know Betty was watching over them – despite Jessie, who sleepwalked as a child, being terrorised by the thought of spirits in the house before.
Ms Palmer said a middle-aged woman is believed to have died in the house about 40 years ago and two decades ago there was an unexplained fire there when no one was in the property.
She also said a medium has told her the house is full of ‘orbs’ and said there was a presence in their house of a man called Frank who watches over Jessie.
Tarot card readings for Jessie, confirmed it was her grandmother
Jessie, who works in the prison service, said: “Mum always said to me it was all in my mind, but weird things have always happened in that house.
“Even now, at the age of 25, I still hate being at home on my own. It is so creepy. “I didn’t think anything of the picture at first but when my mum’s friend said she saw a face the first thing I said was that it looked just like a certain old picture of my gran.
“She had a big penny jar and I always find pennies in random places and think ‘that was not there before’.
“I sometimes talk to her in the house and it is always then that I start finding the pennies.
“It is comforting to think about – if it was my grandma in that photo I would love that.
“We were so close and I was devastated when she passed away – as were the whole family.”
