Chris Hemsworth surprised Instagram followers last week when he shared a snap of himself rocking a brightly painted fingernail. Yesterday, he shared another shot of the nail, explaining to followers that he’s painting it through the whole month of October as part of The Polished Man campaign, which seeks to raise awareness and funds to help end violence against children.
“One in five children fall victim to physical and/or sexual violence before they turn 18,” Hemsworth wrote in the photo’s caption. “That’s one too many. For the month of October, I’ll be painting one nail to represent this statistic and raise awareness and funds to end violence against children.” Hemsworth then directed followers to the Polished Man website, where donations can be made.
Other celebs are joining Hemsworth in the mission. Hemsworth nominated his brother Liam and Zac Efron to join the cause by sharing photos of their own painted nails. Tyler J. Blackburn shared a polished selfie as well. So far, the campaign has raised over $ 400,000.
The campaign is sponsored by YGAP (Y-Generation Against Poverty), an Australian charity that aims to empower local entrepreneurs to help fight poverty. Donations will be directed toward trauma recovery and prevention programs for children, and will also be channelled into organizations like the Australian Childhood Foundation and The New York Center For Children.
