J.Crew is collaborating with New Balance to launch a collection of women’s activewear. And the result is just as patterned and preppy as you think. The two brands have worked together in the past on footwear—J.Crew has actually sold New Balance sneaks since 2005—but this is the first time the fashion brand has created workout apparel.
“We did not have the expertise to do this alone. We have style sense and quality sense. But we didn’t have the technical sense in getting it done. It’s really important for us to do it—and to do it right,” Mickey Drexler, J.Crew chairman and CEO, tells WWD. “You can do yoga, cycling, kickboxing. This is the real stuff. It’s performance along with style.”
And we agree, the pieces are definitely not short on style. The product assortment stays true to the colorful J.Crew aesthetic with bright pops of chartreuse, blue, and orange. There are also plenty of patterns including striped sports bras and paisley windbreakers. The line includes 20 items to start, but the selection will expand with more colors and styles this November. There’s also a spring collection in the works for early 2017. The prices range from $ 10 for a headband to $ 200 for a jacket.
You’ll be able to shop the line starting October 11 online at New Balance and J.Crew as well as in select stores. But for now, you can preview eight of our favorite pieces from the activewear collection ahead.
