You wear compression tights like they’re going out of fashion – don’t worry, they’re not – and consider Fly Knits a sartorial category of their own. But the high-performance wear you’ve had on high-rotation is set for a seasonal switch up, according to Talulah Jung, a Topshop Personal Shopper. (She would know.)
Besides for staples that are too crucial to ever go out (tanks and crops, we’re looking at you) Jung says that looks you’ve seen all over the runway are headed to a treadmill near you. Think 70s styling, psychedelic florals, and FTD streetwear, which shows literally no sign of slowing down.
Of course, the sports gear we’re about to start wearing will be functional, but not only, if you get what we mean.
Here’s what you need to have on your radar, before you add to cart.
High performance streetwear with an emphasis on technical ability is now a legitimate look, and not just something #basic you wear #brunching. “This trend is all about attention to detail. Think technical fabrication finished with statement prints, branding and colour blocking. The perfect example? Beyoncé’s Ivy Park line.”
But not as you know it. Think urban styles in mesh, pieces with raw edges and bombers – lots of bombers. “Just channel Rhianna off duty, and you’re pretty much there.”
“This trend is all about putting the leisure back in athleisure,” says Jung. “Pieces like silky satin pyjama joggers, vintage scoop-cut shorts, tennis trainers and monochrome sweaters.”
For spring, original we know. But instead of sundresses and swimwear, wear eclectic prints on your outfit’s accents – hi-tops are a good place to start.
