Sometimes, you just need to watch a video that will make you smile wider than you have in days. And this clip, my friends, is that very video. The video was posted on YouTube last year, but it’s going viral now thanks to a share on Facebook by the Because Of Them, We Can campaign. In the clip, dad Derrick Culpepper does his three-year-old daughter’s hair before school. And his daughter, Linda, is the most encouraging pint-sized human we’ve ever seen. Linda tells her dad exactly how to do her hair, and then she cheers him on the whole way through. “You’re getting through—you’re almost done!” she says excitedly. “You’re doing a good job!”
According to Buzzfeed, Culpepper learned how to do Linda’s hair in order to split “morning duties” with his wife, Lakisha. Though he finds it difficult to do her hair, he wrote on YouTube that Linda’s cheerleading gets him through. And Culpepper lets Linda know how much he appreciates her throughout the video, which just gives us all the feels.
Culpepper told Buzzfeed that Linda’s encouragement is the norm around the Culpepper house. “She does it to mom as well because that’s the way we are around home,” he said. “We encourage each other and build each other up.”
The video now has over 1 million views on Facebook. Culpepper said he thinks the video is going viral because people are drawn to its positivity. “A lot of people are saying, ‘I wish my dad had done that, I wish my husband could do this,’” Culpepper told Buzzfeed. “It seems to me people are looking for something that reflects something positive, especially for black Americans.”
